Northwoods Sunrise was inspired by visits to the beautiful north woods of Minnesota. This chart is a terrific way to introduce students to a contemporary straight eighth groove. A simple piano ostinato leads to a lilting melody and a solo section that features very simple chord changes. A contrapuntal shout section leads to the return of the original melody and piano ostinato. A terrific piece for teaching form and structure and a great addition to any program.
