…Love so amazing, so divine, Demands my soul, my life, my all…
This is Philip Wilby's setting of Isaac Watts' famous hymn. The first two verses are in unison over a gentle rhythmic ostinato in the piano. Verse 3 goes into 3-part harmony and has a little more movement and a more developed piano part. Verse 4 returns to the opening tempo. The original melody is in the 2nd soprano has a counter-melody in the 1st soprano and alto, after which the piece is brought to a quiet close by a solo soprano, the piano ostinato continuing underneath.
