Written for Stephen Hanover of the Regent Hall Band and was first performed by him on the band's tour to the USA in 1990, and is based around the well-known chorus, Thank you, Lord, for saving my soul.
As the title suggests, much of the music is in a bright, even flamboyant, style and that approach will be necessary to achieve a convincing performance. The soloist will also need to have a wide range, as the upper register is widely exploited. The challenge will be to preserve a good, tenor horn sound in these high registers.
