An arrangement for band of this poignant song from the song cycle A Shropshire Lad. Given his death on the Somme on 5 August 1916, this song by George Butterworth seems both prescient and poignant. It is from the song cycle Six Songs from A Shropshire Lad in which Butterworth set a handful of the 63 poems by the English poet A E Houseman (1859-1936). The last verse of the song culminates in the line ‘The Lads that will die in their glory and never be old’.
