4 Trumpets; F/Eb Horn ; 4 Trombones (BC/TC); Tuba (C BC/Eb TC). Chabrier trained as a lawyer and initially worked for the French government until he made the break and became a full-time composer. Being a very good if splashy pianist, in 1891 he wrote the Bourrée Fantasque as a showpiece for himself. The piece itself is also extraordinarily entertaining.
