Richard Phillips has here engineered an amusing twist on the traditional tune to ‘The holly and the ivy’ by introducing rests in the middle of each line. At various points the melody is dealt with in the form of a canon between the upper and lower voices, and a few other surprises make this piece a refreshing take on an otherwise somewhat overworked carol!
