Composers notes:
Back in the mid-sixties when I began playing the Bass Trombone, there was only one, or at the most two, Method Books - and they were American imports.
I started writing these exercises to help me, in particular, make the valve tones match the sound of the open ones. Some of these exercises owe their life to things I encountered in the recording and film studios.
The Bass Trombone (courtesy of George Roberts) became the 'flavour of the month' with arrangers and composers. One MD - arranger that I did sessions for liked the sound of the bass trombone so much that his trombone section was four basses rather than the usual three tenors and a bass. Happy days!
I have enlarged the section on scales to include exercises on whole-tone, diminished etc. These are not often found in conventional study books, but very useful these days. I hope that you enjoy this book and get benefit from the exercises - I know I did.
Best wishes,
Bill Geldard
