Traumerei was written by Robert Schumann in 1838, the seventh of a set of thirteen pieces for solo Piano. Our chart is based on the Claude Thornhill arrangement of this popular melody, though we have scored it for a regular 5444 big band line-up. Thornhill's band included French Horns, woodwind doubles throughout the reeds and, on occasions, a seven Clarinet choir. Thornhill was also noted for insisting that his players used no vibrato, relying instead on the natural tonality of instruments to convey the arranger's intent. The chart that we offer you here calls for Altos and Tenors to double Clarinet. We have supplied alternate parts in the pack which remove the Tenor doubles, though both Altos are required to double Clarinet regardless. All solos (Piano, Tenor 1, Clarinet, Trumpet 2) are written out in full but can be improvised from the chords too.
