As performed by Carolyn Grey. Gene Krupa recorded over eighty tracks for Capitol Records in 1946-1947. These sessions were later released, along with over sixty Harry James tracks, as the Capitol Vaults Jazz Series. Included in this compilation is this fabulous George Williams arrangement of an early Jerome Kern tune. Williams' chart is outstanding. His voicing of instruments, use of passing chords, substitutions and harmonic alterations was really ahead of its time. The technique of open-voiced sax backings behind the vocal can be heard in the later arrangements of Nelson Riddle. The chart opens in the key of Eb, modulates to C for the vocal chorus, reverts to Eb for the ensemble chorus, with the vocalist rounding off proceedings with an eight measure close. We have notated Carolyn Grey's vocal line 'as sung'. The Tenor and Trombone 2 solos are written out as played and there are no sax doubles.
