As performed by Count Basie. A great little Charlie Hathaway blues-based chart from the Basie band of 1938, with Jimmy Rushing taking the vocal. The chart opens with a short Basie piano solo and a quick unison riff from the reeds, followed by the theme (ensemble with Alto solo fills), then Piano and Tenor solos (improvised) backed by plunger-waving brass, followed by a repeat of the reed riff which introduces the vocal chorus. The Trumpet picks up for a 12 measure solo, followed by a couple of 12 measure ensemble shouts, then a fading unison reed riff to close. This is a really bouncy number and a good opportunity to give a couple of soloists in the band a bit of a blow. The brass ranges are very moderate (lead Trumpet to Ab & lead Trombone to Gb) and there are no sax doubles. The vocal key is Eb.
