…Teach me thy will, And thy rich promises in me fulfil…
Annie Sherwood Hawks was encouraged to write songs in the 19th century by her pastor, gospel songwriter Robert Lowry (1826-1899). One song which they wrote together was "I need thee", which has been set to music by Scottish composer Alistair Taylor. Long vocal lines and rich harmonies are supported by a lilting piano accompaniment. The four verses are sung to the same music, the last one leading into a soft, reflective coda with 7-part harmony for the chorus.
