This piece combines the simple, elegant thematic material of the Elizabethan church composer Tallis, expanded and modernised through the luxurious harmonies of Vaughan Williams. A setting for band has been long overdue, and Jay Bocook does a masterful job of transforming the original work for string orchestra into a magnificent setting for winds. Fantasia was used with great effect in the film Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World.
