Glenn Miller was one of the most popular band leaders of his time in the 1930s and 40s. Here is a medley of four songs that were amongst his most famous, in an arrangement for concert orchestra that evokes the true Glenn Miller sound. The songs are
- In the Mood
- Moonlight Serenade
- Pennsylvania 6-5000
- St. Louis Blues
These songs are usually notated in 4/4 time but played in a "swing" fashion with dotted rhythms usually played lazily, more like a triplet. In an effort to synchronize the "swinging" of a whole concert orchestra (who may not be as used to playing swing as Glenn Miller and his orchestra) this arrangement has been written in 12/8 time to give more of a lazy feel, or, as the opening tempo instruction indicates, "in the groove".
