Francois-Adrien Boieldieu (1775-1834) is considered as the one of the most important representatives of the French opera-comique. His style is characterised by natural, unembellished melody lines, straight forward harmonies with refined orchestration. In 1800, Boieldieu achieved a major triumph with Le Calife de Bagdad. The opening is a true classic of this genre.
