Slavonica! was commissioned by the Bloomsbury Music Group for the Bloomsbury Woodwind Ensemble. The composer wanted to create a set of three modern Slavonic Dances, which are strongly influenced by Dvorak's famous examples: an opening dance, a sousedska, and a lively skocna accelerating to a whirlwind coda. These dances can be played either by a group with one player per part, or by a full concert band wind section.
