…Clap your hands, sing a song of Christmas; Clap your hands, the Lord is come…
Sing a song of Christmas is the result of a collaboration between two Canadians, the composer Leonard Ballantine and the lyricist Ian Adnams. A rousing chorus in unison is interspersed with verses in various vocal combinations - first an upper voice solo, next tenors and basses singing the melody with the ladies in three-part harmony above, and finally all voices in six-part harmony. The third chorus is repeated in a higher key and also in harmony before winding down to a soft ending with the words ‘Jesus Christ the chosen one’. An ideal opener for a carol concert or Christmas service.
