…God is hidden no more, He has spoken his mind; Wrapped the gift of his love in the stuff of mankind…
John Gowans and John Larsson wrote ten musicals together and both became Generals of the Salvation Army. Here they combine to produce a reflective Christmas carol whose sentiment is summed up by the opening words of the chorus – ‘God is hidden no more’. To an ostinato piano accompaniment the verses are sung by the men in unison, followed by the ladies with some four- part harmony at the end, and then the chorus opens out into a rich four- and five-part texture, leading at the end to six-part chords at the words ‘his love is revealed in the face of a child’.
