Trapeze is a set of variations using material suggested by the geometric figure of a 'Trapezium'. The piece is in two distinct and contrasting parts. In the first section groups of instruments - starting with pairs - vary the theme in different ways. The second section is based on a Square Dance - An American Folk Dance - but reflects not only the regularity of the Square, but the irregularity of the Trapezium shape.
