In Dogon, the composer Kevin Houben takes the audience on a journey to the steep slopes of the Dogon Valley in West Africa. Majestic sounds sketch the unique culture of the Malian population, who build their houses on these slopes. The Dogon people see the valley both as a threat and as a promise for the future. This is expressed in dark, mysterious chords that emerge from a restful point in the work. Afterwards, the composer takes the audience to a colourful and challenging conclusion, recalling the spectacular masked dances of the Dogon. Dogon was written on behalf of the Kunstfactor Foundation in Utrecht (NL). The project was supported by the Music lending – and information service (MUI), which is part of the Gelderland Library Service in Arnhem (NL). Duration: 9.30
