This work is an homage to the longstanding friendship between Germany and Austria. During the piece the composer depicts the highs and lows of the relationship through history but emphasises the positive aspects of the strong bond between the two countries. The bright and colourful instrumentation is a kind of musical metaphor for the positive, forward-thinking spirit one should always keep.
