The world-famous Vocalise Op. 34 by Sergei Rachmaninoff (1912) is actually a lyrical exercise for singers but is especially suitable as an expressive performance piece for solo instrument. In his arrangement for flute and piano, Franco Cesarini has reworked the vocalise as a late romantic gem for any flautist.
