Richard, the composer's grandson, studies trumpet at the Tournai music academy in Belgium where his grandfather, André Waignein, holds the post of director. Stepping Stone was written by the grandfather for the first exam of his nephew and fellow pupils - taking into account the technical possibilities of these very young musicians. Naturally, André Waignein also adapted this work for other instruments.
